Welcome to the FAA Part 107 Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) Training.

If you wish to operate sUAS in the National Airspace System (NAS) under 14 CFR part 107, this course will describe your certification and operational requirements.

This initial lesson describes:

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has adopted specific rules to allow the operation of civil small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) in the National Airspace System (NAS) for purposes other than hobby and recreation. The rules are specified in Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) part 107, Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems. Part 107 addresses sUAS classification, certification, and operational limitations.

Applicants who demonstrate an understanding of these rules may obtain a part 107 remote pilot certificate with an sUAS rating.

Visit the Resources page for a "job aid" that summarizes the key provisions in 14 CFR part 107, Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems.

Note: Hobby and recreational use is not regulated under 14 CFR part 107. Hobbyists conducting recreational operations should follow the procedures in AC 91-57, Model Aircraft Operating Standards (as amended).

Primary Audience:

The course focuses on the knowledge areas of 14 CFR part 107 that are beyond the operational knowledge of parts 61 and 91:

To apply for a part 107 remote pilot certificate with an sUAS rating, you must satisfy the following eligibility requirements:

Applicants for a part 107 remote pilot certificate with an sUAS rating must meet the requirements below in order to gain and retain the knowledge necessary to safely operate sUAS in the NAS.

Initial Requirements

Recurrent Requirements (every 24 months)

  • The initial FAA UAG Knowledge Test at a KTC
  • The recurrent FAA UAG Knowledge Test at a KTC

For more information about initial and recurrent training, visit the FAA Airman Testing website. All web resources described in this course are compiled on the Resources page for your future reference.

To prepare for the FAA UAG Knowledge Test at a KTC, thoroughly review the materials provided on the Resources page for this course, including:

Be prepared to provide acceptable, Government-issued photo identification when you take the test at the KTC. The identification must be valid and current and include your photo; date of birth; signature; and physical, residential address.

Applicant Acceptable Forms of Identification at a KTC
U.S. Citizens and Resident Aliens

One of the following forms of identification:

  • Driver permit or license, issued by a U.S. State or territory; U.S. Government identification card; U.S. Military identification card; passport; OR alien residency card
Non-U.S. Citizens

A passport AND one of the following forms of identification:

After you satisfy the applicable training or testing requirements, you may apply for a part 107 remote pilot certificate with an sUAS rating through an online or paper process.

The FAA encourages the use of an online application through the Integrated Airman Certificate and/or Rating Application (IACRA).

A paper process is also available using FAA Form 8710-13, Remote Pilot Certificate and/or Rating Application. However the paper application requires increased processing time and will delay the issuance of your permanent certificate.
